F.A.Q.
Q. How did
you learn photography?
A. I became
interested in photography more than 20 years ago. I completed a two year
commercial photography course at a local technical college and went to
work for a few established photographers as an assistant. I worked with
fashion, advertising and architectural photographers. The technical part
of the learning was easy. The art of seeing is something I still study
today.
Q. Are you
a creative person by nature?
A. Yes.
Apart from photography, I am also an award winning fine woodworker and I
work full time as an architect.
Q. What
camera do you use?
A. I use
the camera that best expresses the mood I am trying to convey. It may be
35mm, medium format, 4x5, 8x10, or digital. Ultimately, the camera is
not as important as the vision of the photographer.
Q. If I use
the same equipment as you, will my images look like yours?
A. No. To
quote the legendary photographer Freeman Patterson, “The camera always
points both ways. In expressing your subject, you also express
yourself.” You will produce photographs based on your own vision of the
world and the viewer will see you in your photographs, not me.
Q. How many
pictures do you take in a year?
A. It’s not the
quantity of images you make; it’s more about the quality. With that said,
your odds of producing memorable photographs improve with each click of
the shutter. I take many thousand images each year. The key
is being able to edit ruthlessly.
Q.
Can I buy prints?
A.
Yes. Any of the images on this site can be purchased as a fine art
print. Please contact us for more information.
Q. Do you print
your own images?
A. I produce
my
own images from initial capture through printing. All prints are printed
on a wide format pigmented ink printer. Film images are scanned to
digital files prior to printing.
Q. Are sizes available
other than what you have at the show?
A. Custom sizes
are available, but the maximum print size will be limited by the type of
camera used to make the original image. All images are available in
either Standard Framing or Premium Framing. We do not offer custom matting and framing services.
Greeting cards are available to order. Please contact us for more
information. (Minimum quantities apply)
Q. I want to learn
more about photography, can you help me?
A. Yes! I am
available on a consulting basis to help you better understand
photography or for portfolio review. Please
contact me
to discuss how I can help.
